17 Jan Modern Reflexology
There is evidence that a form of foot and hand therapy was already used in ancient India, Egypt and China at around 3000 BC. Modern Reflexology, as it is known today, was however only introduced in 1913 by Dr William H Fitzgerald, an ear, nose and throat specialist and later pioneered by physiotherapist Eunice Ingham, as zone therapy.
Thereafter Reflexology has developed steadily, incorporating different methods and is now practiced all over the world as a natural therapy that promotes wellbeing and optimal health in the very young to the very old.
There are over 7 trillion nerves in your body. These nerves are part of your body’s nervous system. They are a bit like electrical wiring, transmitting signals between your brain, spinal cord, and the rest of your body.
In Reflexology, these nerve endings are called reflexes and a Reflexologist uses gentle, targeted pressure point massage on feet, hands and face, to stimulate your nervous system and restore the flow of ‘Vital’ energy throughout your body. This improves circulation which creates optimal balance within all your body’s systems, making your body work better and boosting feelings of wellbeing.
